In 1981,
Helen Rogers became the lead vocalist of the band known as "Direct Drive".
This is where she first met Paul Hardcastle and they quickly became good
friends. Paul then left the band to form First Light and they lost
contact.
Then, out of the blue one summer afternoon, Helen received a
telephone call from Paul. He explained to her that he was working on a
new project and that her soulful, silky sound was just what he was
looking for.
So, in 1993, the first Jazzmasters album was released;
followed by Jazzmasters II in 1996. Both were hit albums.
Now, with the 1999 release of Jazzmasters III, you are hooked in from
the opening track entitled "London In Springtime" with Helen's smooth,
sultry vocals. This album is being hailed the best Jazzmasters album to
date.
When she isn't busy singing songs in the studio, she maintains a
business career in London, England.
...
In 2007 Helen recorded an album of Reggae versions of Pop hits from the
70’s titled ‘Homage’ with multi instrumentalist and vocalist Black
Steel.
Her solo EP ‘Eyes Like Midnight’ released in 2008 was a departure in
style, featuring violin and cello played by Tony Qunta, and remained on
the CD Baby bestseller list for many months.
A collaboration with Fil Jones ‘Luxury of Time’ in 2009 resulted in CD
Baby no 1 chart positions in the Jazzfunk, Jazz and Urban charts Now
Returning to her reggae beginnings Helen has covered a beautiful song
‘Let Me Be Your Angel’ first done in Lovers Rock by Portia Morgan. The
track has created a great deal of interest and has already appeared in
the iTunes Luxembourg Reggae chart.
